Today we had breakfast at our hotel. Pretty typical European breakfast buffet.
It was quite tasty. Then we hopped on a train and a short bus ride to Dachau to visit the concentration camp memorial.
I’ve never been anywhere like it. The air was so heavy. Terrible, terrible things happened there. This was the first concentration camp that the Nazis used, and it was used mainly for political prisoners. I took a lot of pictures, nothing really graphic, but be aware if the topic is sensitive to you.
If the trees could talk, they would weep for the lives that were stolen by the Nazis in their presence along the firing walls.

I think everyone should visit something like this once in their life. It is indescribable. You can see the pictures, hear and know the stories, but until you walk the same paths, breathe in the same places that so many deaths and terrors occurred, you will never understand the feeling. The whole place has a different aura around it. It’s unsettling. I swear when I took a video of the crematorium that I saw a weird shimmer, like heat coming off the furnaces.
Our world has a terrible past; it’s up to us to remember it and make a better future. Be grateful for your freedoms. Live your life to the fullest. Be a good person. Never forget. Never again.

Glad to hear you are having a good trip. I know Meissen and Dachau well. I am sure that you and I will never forget it.
